Chapter 17

Viv

“Knock, knock!” Abby yells, just before I hear the jangling of her keys and the front door clicking closed. “You ready, Viv?”

“Just about,” I say, at a normal human volume, peeking around the frame of my open bedroom door. “It's 5:54 am, and my house is the size of a shoebox, so yelling is discouraged.”

It's Abby and Kolson’s wedding day. My bed is covered in everything I'll need for the day—makeup, the matte black hair bow Abby had insisted goes perfectly with my Maid of Honor gown, bottles of champagne and plastic flutes, their gift, the gifts for all the bridesmaids, and the list went on.

Abby walks in and stands next to me, staring down into the madness. “Uh, that's a lot of stuff.”

“Thank you for the astute observation,” I snark. “Fuck, I’m going to have to bring a suitcase.” I get down to my knees and peek under the bed, trying to see the rolling case that has to be under here. Spying it on the other side of the bed, I stand and move around the bed, grabbing it out and zipping it open on the floor.

“Happy wedding day!” I say as I start packing everything, finally starting to wake up.

“Thank you!” She bounces on her toes, far too awake for so early on a Saturday morning. “I'm so excited, but so ready for this crazy day to be over, too, you know?”

“I'd probably feel the same. How's Kolson? Ready to take you off the market officially, I'm sure.” I raise an eyebrow at her, all too aware of how possessive he is of Abby.

She just laughs. “I made Kolson sleep in the spare room last night, so he's been alternating pissy texts, sappy texts, and horny texts for the past hour.” Her phone chimes right on cue and she pulls it from her pocket. “Let's see what this one is…”

Zipping up the case and standing it upright on its wheels, I watch as a slow blush creeps onto her cheeks. “Horny, then.” And she smiles knowingly at me. “I'm ready. Let's go.”

Grabbing my dress back off the back of the bedroom door, I wheel the suitcase after Abby, and we make our way out to her car. The sleek white Mercedes was her engagement gift from Kolson, as if the five-carat rock on her finger wasn't enough.

She pops the trunk and opens it for me to haul the bag in, and she shuts it with a loud clunk as I hang my dress over the backseat. When we're finally on our way, I relax into the leather bucket seat, closing my eyes for a bit of extra rest before the crazy day ahead.

“We’re picking up Grace on the way,” Abby says, making my eyes snap open. I look over at her with a quizzical look, and after a glance in my direction, she explains, “You know, I invited her and Kane to the wedding. We've been seeing each other a lot at the studio, and we
